Education Librarian
Reports to Director, Collection, Education, and Research Services; works in close collaboration with other library units: Scholarly Communications, Marketing and Communications, Learning Technology Group, Web Services

The UCSF Library seeks an energetic, creative, collaborative, and service-oriented professional to serve as Education Librarian and technology lead for the department. The successful candidate has a passion for leveraging emerging technologies to provide user-centered services and for teaching and learning. Reporting to the Director, Collection, Education, and Research Services this position is part of a team of librarians who provide consulting and instructional services to our diverse and distributed campus community.

As the technology lead for the Education Services department, this individual will:
• investigate and implement new ways to promote and provide education and consulting services in an online environment;
• ensure education and consulting services are accurately represented on the library’s website;
• lead the continued development and maintenance of subject guides;
• lead development of interactive, online tutorials.

This individual will be a technology evangelist and identify, assess, and model examples for adoption of technologies that will enhance education and consultation services. Working with Education Services colleagues, the Education will also provide instruction and workshops designed to foster the use of information resources and tools as well as offer consultation services to faculty, staff, and students on a variety of subjects.

The UCSF Library serves the faculty, staff and students in the academic, clinical and research programs based in the schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry and the Graduate School.

Responsibilities:
• Serve as lead for education and consulting services content on the library’s website, LibGuides development and maintenance, and creation of interactive, online tutorials in collaboration with colleagues.
• Devise creative ways to deliver library instruction and content including but not limited to: remote instructional support, creating online research guides, creating interactive tutorials, and exploring other online and mobile learning tools such as new media production tools.
• Develop and provide instruction and workshops designed to foster the use of library information resources and the effective application of library technologies in teaching, research, and clinical needs.
• Provide client-focused consulting services to UCSF faculty, students, and staff in areas such as database searching, in particular PubMed, general reference, and reference management software.
• Disseminate information about tools and services, as well as key trends and initiatives, through personal communications, blogs, news announcements, and social media.
• Work collaboratively on library-, campus- and system-wide teams to develop and implement new services.
• Participate in scholarly, professional, and service activities that enhance education and library programs.

Qualifications:
• Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree.
• Minimum 2 years of library experience in a research or academic health sciences library setting.
• Experience identifying, evaluating, and using emerging technologies to enhance library instruction and other outreach services.
• Experience using tools such as web- and cloud-based conferencing, social media, and media production tools.
• Experience creating online tutorials for a diverse user base.
• Experience with LibGuides and/or web content development.
• Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively as both a team member and independently within a rapidly changing, complex, and multicultural environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, and instructional technology skills.
• Strong user-centered orientation with an aptitude for providing online and face to face instruction and consultation services.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence of professional scholarly interests.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience providing literature search services and other reference services in the health sciences to clinicians, educators, faculty, researchers, and students.
• Experience searching and teaching relevant biomedical databases such as PubMed.
• Undergraduate or advanced degree in health or life sciences or professional experience in an academic or hospital library.

Administrative Information:
Appointment will be to the Associate Librarian or Librarian rank with the level of appointment and starting salary dependent upon qualifications.
