Position description
Associate Professional Researcher – Andino Lab
The Andino Laboratory at UCSF is seeking an Associate Professional Researcher to join the lab and contribute to new and ongoing projects. The position will lead and contribute to independent and collaborative research projects focused on poliovirus and other enterovirus biology, including viral replication mechanisms, host–virus interactions, pathogenesis, and the development and evaluation of next-generation live-attenuated vaccines. The position also encompasses research on SARS-CoV-2 cell biology, with emphasis on molecular virology, proteomics-based approaches, and host response pathways.
The incumbent will apply advanced molecular biology, cell biology, virology, and proteomics methodologies, including viral reverse genetics, infection models, high-throughput and systems-level analyses, and data interpretation relevant to viral pathogenesis and antiviral immunity.
The Associate Professional Researcher will train and mentor new members of the laboratory, with particular responsibility for graduate students and research technicians. This includes oversight of experimental design and execution, troubleshooting, data analysis, and guidance in scientific rigor, reproducibility, and manuscript preparation.
The incumbent will participate actively in laboratory management, including coordination of shared resources, maintenance of biosafety and regulatory compliance, ordering and inventory management, and implementation of best laboratory practices within the Andino Laboratory.
In addition, the Associate Professional Researcher will contribute to training activities associated with the Andino Laboratory, including BioReg discussion sections focused on the critical analysis and discussion of primary research papers, participation in laboratory meetings and journal club.
Required Qualifications:
• Must possess a Doctorate or its equivalent
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including clear and effective verbal and written communication.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn and implement new methods and technical skills in response to evolving research priorities.
• Proven ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary research team.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate activities with others, and meet multiple concurrent deadlines.
