Wang Lab – Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist

The Wang Lab is seeking a Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full Specialist. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on developing artificial intelligence (AI) applications for enhanced abdominal imaging, particularly in cancer detection. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and lab members to support these efforts by meticulously curating high-quality datasets. The primary goal of this role is to provide crucial support in organizing and assembling comprehensive clinical and imaging data essential for training and validating AI algorithms. This position involves engaging in detailed data management and basic analysis tasks within a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assemble and meticulously organize high-quality clinical and imaging datasets derived from sources such as electronic health records and imaging archives (PACS).
  • Perform manual data collection, verification, and entry for specified patient cohorts, ensuring accuracy and completeness relevant to abdominal imaging and cancer detection projects.
  • Execute basic medical image analysis tasks under supervision, which may include anatomical segmentation on imaging studies like CT or MRI.
  • Review various clinical reports (e.g., radiology, pathology) to extract and record pertinent information.
  • Assist with managing day-to-day lab operations and research logistics as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with the PI, postdoctoral researchers, students, and other team members.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of data collection, verification, and analysis activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree in a related science (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience.
  • Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience.
  • Applicants must meet all the qualifications by the time of hire.
  • Applicant materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a laboratory or research environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for evolving research priorities.
  • Prior experience working with clinical data or electronic health records.
  • Familiarity with medical imaging data (e.g., DICOM format) or basic image analysis software.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology, particularly related to radiology or oncology.
  • Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence or its applications in healthcare.
