Position description
Associate or Full Specialist – Winkler lab
The Winkler Lab, located at the UCSF Parnassus campus, is seeking to recruit a qualified Associate or Full Specialist to join our highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team. The Winkler Lab investigates the fundamental basis of stroke, including the pathogenesis of brain vascular malformations and development of therapeutic strategies for blood-brain barrier delivery. The lab utilizes single-cell genomics, organoid and iPSC technologies, mouse modeling, and focused ultrasound, with the goal of developing precision-based approaches for brain vascular disorders. Ongoing research projects include: (1) identifying cellular drivers of brain vascular malformation pathogenesis; (2) understanding how molecular variations drive differences in disease progression; and (3) development of strategies to bypass the blood-brain barrier to deliver novel therapy. We work collaboratively with basic scientists, neurosurgeons, neurointerventionalists, pathologists, and computational biologists at the UCSF Parnassus campus.
The Specialist will be a valued laboratory member, creating novel bioengineered stem cell platforms, assisting with grant preparation, and contributing to scientific manuscripts. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, a strong communicator, and be experienced with bioengineering, including 3D printing and stem cell biology.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conceptual & experimental design of bioengineered stem cell platforms.
- Conducting other experimental work including organoid cell culture, single-cell sequencing, and real-time cell imaging.
- Assistance with grant preparation.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate Specialist - Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in biology or related field or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
- Full Specialist - terminal degree (or equivalent degree) in biology or related field or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.
- 3 years or more of postdoctoral fellowship experience in cerebrovascular biology and 3D bioprinting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a PhD in biology or related field.
