Position description
Agard Lab – Full Specialist
Biochemistry and Biophysics
UC San Francisco
We are seeking a cryoEM structural biologist with expertise in molecular chaperones and amyloidogenic proteins. The successful candidate will focus on understanding the mechanism by which the Hsp70 molecular chaperone blocks the ability of a-synuclein to oligomerize and aggregate. This will involve a combination of biochemical, biophysical and cryoEM structural determination of challenging heterogeneous complexes, and the establishment and execution of quantitative biochemical and functional assays. The candidate will be responsible for independent execution of experiments and writing manuscripts and presenting the work.
Required Qualifications:
- A terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience.
- 3+ years’ experience in solving protein structures by single particle cryoEM.
- Experienced in using Relion and CryoSparc, especially on challenging dynamic and heterogeneous complexes.
- Experience in protein purification, sample preparation for cryoEM, data collection and processing, biophysical characterization using fluorescence anisotropy and mass photometry and carrying out quantitative functional assays including fluorescent and luciferase-based assays.
- Specific experience in purification, structural analyses, and biochemical quantitative analyses of amyloidogenic proteins.
- Proven ability and drive to solve complex experimental challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specific experience in structural and biochemical analyses of alpha-synuclein and of Hsp70.
See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,200-$194,800.
Please apply online at: https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF05768 with a cover letter, CV, and contact information for two references. Applicant materials must list current qualifications upon submission.
