Associate Specialist- Jan Lab
Department of Physiology

The Department of Physiology is now recruiting an Associate Specialist. To provide comprehensive molecular biology technical support for postdoctoral fellows to investigate structure and function of ion channels. Required techniques include: preparation of competent cells and Gibson assembly reagents; primer design, PCR and all stages of cloning for making constructs in traditional and CRISPR-based vectors; analysis of DNA sequences; mini and large preparation of plasmid DNA; preparation of total and mRNA for Northern blot analysis and cDNA library construction; preparation of genomic DNA from fly and mouse tissues; generation of Bacmid and Baculovirus for protein expression. To establish primary cell culture and maintain human tumor cell lines; to perform subcutaneous injection of tumor cells into mice and rats to establish tumor model; to perform protein quality analysis by SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis and co-Immunoprecipitation assay; to preserve all published constructs from the lab; to sort, aliquot, store and monitor lab antibody stocks..
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience.
• Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.
• Candidate's CV must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Post-graduate training in field
• Independent specialized research
• Management experience
• Maintaining common reagents like antibodies, plasmids, enzymes and frozen cell lines, ensuring proper storage, handling, and documentation to preserve their quality and functionality.
• Regularly making competent cells and Gibson assembly master mix for lab common stock.
• Keeping lab BUA and RUA protocols active by renewing and modifying the protocols.
• Maintaining, defrosting and organizing lab freezers, Refrigerators and liquid Nitrogen system.
• Making domestic or international shipment of lab reagents like plasmids, antibodies and cell lines upon request.
• Making a variety of different stock solutions for the laboratory.
