Position description
UCSF seeks an outstanding individual to assume the role of Director of the Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR). The Director will have prime responsibility in organizing and overseeing all research and development efforts in advancing functional genomics technologies within the LGR, with a particular emphasis on the use of CRISPR-Cas based approaches to target discovery and validation within the context of genomic medicine. This will include the development and deployment of cutting edge functional genomic tools including single-cell RNA seq approaches, high content imaging, and robotic-enabled pooled and arrayed screens as well as modeling of disease and other complex biological phenomenon in cellular systems including 2D and 3D cultures. Working with the support of an Alliance Manager, the Director will bear primary responsibility for all aspects of scientific collaboration between the LGR and GSK, as well as the LGR and UCSF and UC Berkeley. The Director will serve on the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) as a voting member, and share scientific strategy leadership responsibilities with other members of the JSC.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD or MD/PhD Biological Sciences, Chemical Biology, or related field with a strong track record in leading successful R&D groups within the functional genomics space.
- An established record of leadership in translational genetics and genomics as well as exceptional skills and a strong track record as a leader in translational biomedicine.
- Minimum 5-year experience working in an academic environment, health science organization or biotechnology company.
- Demonstrated leadership experience working within the research environment at a major research university or biotechnology company.
- High-level interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with diverse stakeholders in all parts of the organization and ability to reach out to various constituents.
- Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal.
- Ability to efficiently coordinate interdisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership experience at the academia-industry interface.
- A robust working knowledge of the path of an experimental therapeutic from proof of concept to first-in-human clinical trials.
- Direct experience in functional genomics, in particular CRISPR-Cas.
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $118,000-$309,800. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
