Position description
Junior or Assistant Research Specialist - Fattahi Lab
The Fattahi Lab, located in Genentech Hall at the UCSF Mission Bay campus, is seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate interested in conducting basic and translational research on the peripheral nervous system with a focus on using human pluripotent stem cells for disease modeling, drug discovery and cell therapy.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in multiple research projects depending on the candidate’s skills and level of interest.
This full-time position will include the following responsibilities:
- Administrative and laboratory management duties
- Performing basic stem cell culture techniques, immunohistochemistry, basic molecular biology, microscopy and data analysis. The position is for at least two years and suitable for an individual who is looking to gain research experience on the way to further career development, such as going on to graduate, medical, or MD/PhD training. Appointees in the Specialist series do not have teaching responsibilities. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and training.
Required Qualifications:
- Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.
- Candidates should have a solid biology background with coursework in organic chemistry, Biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology.
- Familiarity with wet lab techniques
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.
