Ladder Rank Biostatistician – Associate or Full Professor

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for a full-time ladder rank (tenured) faculty position at the Associate or Full rank to help lead the department and its Division of Biostatistics. Applicants should have deep expertise in the methods of contemporary biostatistics, and a track record of leadership, teaching, consultation and collaboration, and independent funding.

Context: UCSF is one of the nation’s top medical research institutions. The UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is the largest department of its kind in the University of California system, including nearly 30 biostatistics/bioinformatics faculty along with 4 divisions of epidemiologists. The Division of Biostatistics teaches, conducts methodology research, and provides biostatistical expertise to the rest of the university, collaborating with departments in all 4 schools, the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute, the Cancer Center, the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and other entities across campus. The Division also participates in teaching medical students, fellows, junior faculty, and students in our master’s programs and in our PhD Program in Epidemiology and Translational Sciences.

Duties: Ladder rank faculty members in our department are expected to lead an independent, extramurally funded research program; to teach, train, and mentor our students and junior faculty; and to provide university service. This faculty member will also take on leadership roles in the Division of Biostatistics, which might include oversight of the department’s biostatistics training, strategic partnerships with other departments and research units for collaboration and recruitment, development of large, multi-project efforts such as program project and center grants, and leading the Division.

Qualifications: Candidates must have:
• a doctorate in biostatistics or a closely related field;
• deep expertise in the methods of contemporary biostatistics;
• a record of accomplishment in both methodological and applied research, including history of extramural funding; and
• a track record of leadership

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $145,500-$309,800. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
