Pinney Lab – Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist
Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics

Nature of Research.
The Pinney Lab is seeking applicants for a Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Academic Specialist position using cutting-edge microfluidic technologies to understand the fundamental mechanisms that drive enzyme function and evolution and apply these mechanisms to enzyme design. This position would involve learning to build libraries of enzyme sequences, fabricate microfluidic devices and execute biochemical experiments on these devices. This position is ideal for a candidate with a background in biophysics, bioengineering, or biochemistry, interested in gaining further experience in an academic laboratory and working at the boundary of multiple disciplines. Responsibilities.
- Designing and executing experiments in line with standard protocols, recording observations, and interpreting findings.
- Recording all experimental data and test results accurately in an electronic notebook.
- Organizing and storing all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.
- Ensuring that safety guidelines are adhered to at all times within the laboratory.
- Cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment.
- Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed.
- Providing technical support and training to others.
- Keeping up to date with relevant scientific literature.
- Attending and participating 1:1 meetings and laboratory group meetings.
Qualifications.
- Individuals appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
- Individuals appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.
- Individuals appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience.
- Individuals appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience.
- Previous laboratory research experience with biochemical techniques.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications.
- Programming experience in Python.
- Microscopy experience.
