Position description

Assistant, Associate or Full Specialist- Gilbert Lab
Department of Laboratory Medicine

A specialist position is currently available for immediate employment in the lab of Dr. Luke Gilbert at the University of California, San Francisco. Research will involve the development of viral delivery capabilities for genetic medicines. The candidate will have the opportunity to publish their research in preeminent scientific journals such as Cell, Nature, eLife, and PNAS. For research topics, please see our lab website at https://gilbertlab.ucsf.edu/ Responsibilities and technical expertise: Using techniques available in the UCSF Department of Lab Medicine, including pharmacological, protein engineering and genetic tools, the candidate will engage in research on developing viral vectors for gene therapy. The candidate will perform research in the Gilbert lab pertaining to in vivo gene delivery strategies. The candidate will be responsible for conducting experiments and analyzing data as well as preparing manuscripts for publication. The candidate will also collaborate with Gilbert lab members at the PIs request.

Required Qualifications:

  • Assistant Specialist- A master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in a field such as Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, or Cellular Biology or a closely related field with three or more years of research experience.
  • Associate Specialist- A master’s degree in a field such as a Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, or Cellular Biology or a closely related field or five to ten years or research experience.
  • Full Specialist- Must have a PhD degree or equivalent in a field such as Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, or Cellular Biology or closely related field or ten or more years of research experience.
  • Must have experience in the area of virology and gene therapy or genomic medicine.
  • All requirements must be met by the start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree or equivalent in a field such as Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, or Cellular Biology
  • More than 1.5 years postdoctoral research experience or equivalent
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience in the fields of transcription, epigenetics and functional genomics is highly preferred.
  • Applicant must be an effective communicator, detail-oriented and organized, able to take the initiative to address research issues, and work independently, and collaborate well with other members of the lab.
  • A two-year commitment is highly preferred.
