Position description
Junior, Assistant, Associate or Full Specialist – Debnath Lab
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Junior, Assistant, Associate or Full Specialist for the laboratory of Dr. Jayanta Debnath whose lab focuses on autophagy in cancer and age-related neurodegeneration.
This individual will:
- Perform specialized experimental research in the fields of cell and molecular biology, proteomics, and epithelial cancer biology in collaboration with other scientists in the Debnath lab and faculty in the UCSF Department of Pathology. Experiments that will be conducted will include, but are not limited to, studies of molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry, and monolayer and 3D cell culture.
- Serve as lab manager of the Debnath lab. Major tasks will include, but are not limited to, helping write and maintaining compliance with institutional biological safety, chemical safety and IACUC protocols; placing and receiving orders; organizing equipment; maintaining and organizing stock supplies and reagents; and shipping requested reagents to other laboratories.
Required Qualifications:
- Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
- Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.
- Applicant must have the requirements met by time of hire.
- Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with tissue culture and cell biology, including microscopy and flow cytometric methods.
- Experience with molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
- Experience with mouse models of metastasis, including experimental and spontaneous metastasis models.
- Experience with histology, including processing, embedding and sectioning of FFPE tissues.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $51,300 - $181,800.
