Position description

Associate Specialist - Baraban Lab

The Baraban Lab at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking an experienced researcher for interdisciplinary research with expertise in transcriptomics, computational analysis, animal models and behavioral assays.

Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent will work closely with current lab members, including postdoctoral scholars and/or graduate students, to further our overall translational epilepsy research program.
  • The incumbent will participate in studies using mouse and zebrafish models of genetic epilepsy conditions.
  • Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities.
  • Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in biomedical sciences.
  • Knowledge of transcriptomics especially end-to-end RNA-Seq data analysis.
  • Strong computational skills in R, Matlab or Python.
  • Experience in behavioral analysis, microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
  • Experience with transgenic animal models.
  • Excellent bioinformatics skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree (or equivalent degree).
  • Post-graduate training in field.
  • Data science and statistical skills.
  • Machine learning expertise.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
