The Di Ianni Lab at UCSF (https://diiannilab.ucsf.edu) is seeking a highly motivated Junior/Assistant/Associate Specialist to join our fast-growing multidisciplinary team. Our lab is located in the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences on the Mission Bay campus and focuses on developing cutting-edge technologies for functional ultrasound imaging, ultrasound neuromodulation, and image-guided neurointervention.

We are looking for a candidate to work on a project involving deep learning processing of functional ultrasound imaging data (see our recent paper for further information: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9247015/). The candidate will be expected to develop and train new models and to perform experiments to validate the performance of the neuroimaging methods. Additionally, the researcher will be expected to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication and to assist with managing other lab operations under the supervision of the principal investigator.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists at the Junior rank must possess (or be in process of obtaining) a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment).
  • Specialists at the Assistant rank must possess (or be in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree with three or more years of research experience.
  • Specialist at the Associate rank must possess (or be in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of relevant experience.
  • The ideal candidate should have received their degree in a relevant field such as Bio/Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience or other closely related field by the time the position begins.
  • Prior experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, Matlab, R) is required.
  • Prior experience with machine learning/deep learning models is required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a part of a research team.
  • Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.
  • Candidate’s CV must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with rodent handling is preferred.
  • Prior experience with ultrasound research scanners is preferred.
  • Prior experience with medical imaging modalities is preferred.
