Position description

Oni-Orisan Lab - Junior Specialist / Assistant Specialist – Computational Lab
Department of Clinical Pharmacy
University of California, San Francisco

The Oni-Orisan Lab at UCSF's Department of Clinical Pharmacy and the Institute for Human Genetics is has two major interests that fall within our overarching research mission. First, we aim to establish pharmacogenetic predictors of statin efficacy and safety. Second, we aim to advance pharmacogenomic discovery and validation in historically-excluded populations.

We seek to hire junior or associate specialist(s) to assist our team to generate, manage, and analyze large datasets containing electronic health records, genomic data, drug regimens, and clinical outcomes.

The laboratory currently has projects identifying the genetic and social determinants of pharmacological drug response among racial/ethnic minorities, elucidating the clinical validity of CHD polygenic risk scores for statin ASCVD prevention by leveraging real-world data from the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank (KPRB) and validating key findings in the Million Veteran Program (MVP) cohort of the Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care system, and candidate variants/genes/pathways associated with new-onset diabetes susceptibility in statin users.

Responsibilities include generating drug response phenotypes (e.g., develop the genotype /phenotype), constructing longitudinal data sets for further analyses, generating visualization plots to characterize the data, conducting the inferential statistics, and preparing/analyzing all requested data analytics, as well as archiving code for future use. Through this work, we expect that our specialist(s) will play an integral role in advancing our knowledge of pharmacogenomics.
We are seeking individuals with at least an 18-month commitment. Depending on performance and workload, opportunities for independent research may be available. The successful candidate will have strong interest or experience in precision medicine, cardiology, and/or pharmacogenomics.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
