Position description

In Residence Faculty Position | Division of Neuroimmunology and Glial Biology, Department of Neurology, UCSF School of Medicine

The Division of Neuroimmunology and Glial Biology in the Department of Neurology at UCSF seeks an exceptional Physician-Scientist with a proven track record focused on the development and validation of body-fluid-based biomarkers and proteomics for patients with neuroimmunological and related neurodegenerative conditions. This position will lead a re-establishment initiative using non-human primate data to investigate neuroimmunology and neurodegeneration research.

The successful candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Professor rank of the In Residence faculty series and must possess a medical degree and license, appropriate post-MD or postdoctoral training, and be actively engaged or show exceptional promise in a laboratory research program. The candidate must have completed rigorous training in animal models and neurodegeneration to integrate this model into collaborations with other laboratories within the Division, including the Green, Chan, Wilson, Pleasure, Fancy, and Watkins Labs. This role is necessary to help with preclinical testing and assessment of promising candidates as therapies for brain repair where research on rodents is not adequate or appropriate. This is a critical unmet need for our field.

Additional responsibilities may include providing world-class direct patient care, managing relevant patient therapies, including infusible medications, and teaching and supervision of housestaff, postdoctoral and clinical fellows, medical and graduate students, and laboratory staff. Teaching activities include didactic and informal instruction during clinical rounds and/or informal laboratory teaching.

Candidates must apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF05047, with a letter of interest; CV; a statement of research describing research accomplishments to date, goals, and future plans; a statement of their contributions to diversity; and three references (contact information) from peers in their field. Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment. Application materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Applications received outside of the online process cannot be considered, but informal inquiries can be directed to Dr. Jonah Chan at Jonah.Chan@ucsf.edu.
