Position description

Chang Lab – Junior Specialist
Department of Cell & Tissue Biology
UC San Francisco

Position Duties:
To conduct and support research in a basic science laboratory on quantitative cell biology, biophysics and microbial genetics studies. The junior specialist will perform experiments and analyze data with supervision from senior members of the laboratory on research projects related to cellular mechanobiology. In addition, 10-20% of the effort will be dedicated to lab management duties including lab safety, assisting in ordering and maintenance of lab supplies, maintaining strains and plasmid collections, and performing other related duties as assigned. The Junior Specialist will be expected to participate in weekly group meetings and attend relevant seminars and data clubs on campus as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in Biology or related field such as Genetics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Engineering or at least four years of research experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Computational skills with working knowledge of Python or MatLab.
  • Some experience in light microscopy and image analyses.
