Position description

Junior Specialist- Maher lab
Department of Medicine and Liver Center
University of California, San Francisco

The Maher lab at UCSF is recruiting a Junior Specialist to join a multi-laboratory research effort to conduct in vitro liver disease modeling with patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The Specialist will be actively involved in expanding and banking human iPSC lines and differentiating them to monotypic or heterotypic liver cell cultures in 2D and 3D formats. Once differentiated, the liver cell cultures will be comprehensively phenotyped using -omics, imaging and biochemical assays. There may be additional opportunity to recruit new subjects to the program and use subjects’ blood cells to reprogram new iPSC lines. The position offers an excellent opportunity to learn about iPSCs and how they can be used to understand human liver disease. Because cell maintenance is a daily responsibility, applicants must have the willingness and flexibility to share/rotate weekend duty with other lab members.

Required Qualifications:
• B.S. or B.A. in a life science or related discipline
• Demonstrated competence in basic laboratory techniques, either through work experience or educational record
• Knowledge of and ability to practice aseptic technique
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Flexible work schedule to accommodate periodic weekend duty

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with mammalian cell culture
