Junior Specialist- Kheirbek Lab
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

The Kheirbek lab in the in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Junior Specialist. Our lab is focused on understanding the neural circuits that generate emotional behavior (see www.kheirbeklab.org for more information). The successful candidates will assist in general laboratory tasks including general laboratory management, ordering supplies, compliance with animal and chemical regulatory protocols, mouse colony maintenance, immunohistochemical analysis of brain tissue, behavioral analysis, conducting chemogenetic/ optogenetic and calcium imaging experiments in awake behaving mice, beginning with generation/ genotyping of mice, construction and surgical implantation of optical cannulas, mouse behavioral experiments, imaging and data analysis. We are especially keen to hire an individual who is highly motivated and capable of both working in a team and independent problem solving. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to projects and co-author peer-reviewed publications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in biology or a related discipline by the start date.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory is a prerequisite.
