Position description

Junior Specialist – Stachler Lab

The Stachler laboratory within the Department of Pathology at UCSF focuses on understanding the drivers of pre-neoplastic progression, especially around upper GI cancers. Please see https://stachlerlab.ucsf.edu/ for a general outline of the interests and research that is being performed within the laboratory. Responsibilities will include working closely with others in the laboratory to perform a variety of experiments including in vitro and in vivo (murine) modeling, multi-omic characterization (sequencing and spatial) of human tissue samples, and computational analysis of the generated data.

Required qualifications:

  • Must have (or in process of obtaining) a Bachelor’s Degree or have at least 4 years of research experience. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in computational data analysis involving large datasets.
  • Experience or desire to learn ‘wet’ lab procedures associated with pre-analytic stages of sequencing (such as library preparation) or in vitro and in vivo modeling is an advantage.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
