Position description

Junior Specialist – Raleigh Lab

The Department of Neurological Surgery is now recruiting a Junior Specialist. The responsibilities will include cell culture, molecular biology (RNA and DNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, protein extraction, recombinant DNA manipulation), gel electrophoresis (DNA and protein), immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, light field microscopy, data analysis, mouse husbandry, pre-clinical therapeutic animal experimentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in biology by the time of hire.
  • Familiarity and experience with the mechanisms of Hedgehog signaling.
  • Exceptional capacity for teamwork including receiving feedback and altering workflows to accommodate the overall scientific aims of the group.
  • Punctuality.
  • Timely responsiveness to email, lab notebook maintenance, data analysis.
  • Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $51,300 - $54,600.
