Position description

General Internal Medicine Clinician-Educator at
San Francisco General’s Richard Fine People’s Clinic

The Richard Fine People’s Clinic (RFPC, formerly known as the General Medicine Clinic) at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) is looking for a faculty member to join the University of California, San Francisco’s Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) at ZSFG. The position will be an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Medicine in either the Health Science, In Residence, or Clinical Professor of Medicine series, and will be between 0.51 to 1.0 FTE depending on applicant’s interest, resources, and additional effort commitments. RFPC is an academic primary care practice that cares for ~8,000 of the City’s most medically and socially complex patients, delivering well over 30,000 visits per year. RFPC also is a major teaching site for UCSF Internal Medicine residents (both primary care and categorical). Approximately half of all patient visits are done by faculty and nurse practitioners; the remainder are carried out by residents.

We are seeking a dedicated clinician educator faculty member to provide a minimum of 0.5 FTE in ambulatory clinical activities (at least 4 half-day clinics per week), including their own primary care clinic at RFPC 2-3 half-days per week. This position will also supervise residents as a key member of our faculty precepting group; the number of precepting sessions will be a minimum of 2 half-days per week. The position may include 1-2 14-day blocks (5-10%) serving on the Medicine Resident Inpatient Service at ZSFG, depending on departmental need and applicant interest.

RFPC seeks a skilled clinician who has at least 2 years of experience in primary care and who has outstanding primary care teaching abilities and a strong commitment to a clinical role. Candidates must be American Board of Internal Medicine certified (preferred) or eligible and possess both valid California medical license and valid DEA license by start date. Experience working in a safety net setting and with vulnerable populations is strongly preferred, as is Spanish and/or Cantonese fluency. A commitment to providing high quality care to the urban underserved is required.

DGIM at ZSFG has approximately 30 faculty members and three main centers of activity: providing medical care at RFPC and on the inpatient wards of the hospital; teaching UCSF medical students, residents, and fellows; and conducting research focused on generating new knowledge and policy to improve the care of vulnerable and underserved populations. ZSFG is a premier public hospital with a level 1 trauma center that also has a strong research enterprise. RFPC is part of The San Francisco Health Network, the city’s safety net health system that cares for ~110,000 patients annually in 13 primary care health centers throughout the city.
