Position description

Director of the General Practice Residency in Dentistry - HS Clinical Series

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is recruiting for a full-time General Dentist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The appointment will be in the HS Clinical Series. Academic rank and salary level will be based on the successful applicant’s experience.

Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are salaried employees in the health sciences who teach, participate in patient care, and may participate in university and/or public service and scholarly and/or creative activities. Faculty in this series teach the application of basic sciences and the mastery of clinical procedures in all areas concerned with the care of patients. The selected candidate will direct the Hospital Dentistry Service and the General Practice Residency (GPR) Program at the University of California, San Francisco, and at Laguna Honda Hospital. The Director will hold responsibilities in teaching, clinical practice, research, and administration. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in California and must have completed an accredited GPR program and have two year’s post GPR certificate work experience. Experience teaching trainees and providing direct supervisory oversight is preferred. An interest in working with patients with special needs, implant restorative dentistry, clinical research, as well as experience working in the operating room will be considered an advantage.

The selected candidate will be expected to:

  • Practice evidence based, high quality care;
  • Teach trainees in the clinical and classroom setting;
  • Evaluate appropriateness of patients to be seen in the clinic;
  • Represent the Faculty Practice within UCSF and the surrounding communities;
  • Maintain an active dialogue with UCSF referring providers and within the UCSF Health community; and
  • Participate in university governance, faculty meetings, departmental administrative meetings, quality assurance programs and continuing education.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $142,800-$377,200. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
