Adjunct, Clinical X, HS Clinical, In Residence Series

The Division of Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals is seeking candidates to join our rapidly growing Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program. Applicants should have a strong interest and experience in the clinical care of children with CNS tumors, as well as an interest in related research.

Appointment will be made at the Assistant, Associate, or Full rank in the Adjunct, Health Sciences (HS) Clinical, Clinical X, and In Residence faculty series. The academic rank is commensurate with experience. For candidates whose primary training is in pediatric hematology/oncology, their designated home department will be Pediatrics. Similarly, candidates with primary training in child neurology will find their home department in Neurology.

The selected candidate will join a major academic medical center and an established fellowship training program. This position may entail clinical responsibilities at both the San Francisco and Oakland campuses, and the candidate will actively contribute to the Department of Pediatrics’ mission of excellence in research, education, and patient care.

Anticipated responsibilities include clinical attendance in inpatient Neuro-Oncology, as well as Hematology/Oncology or Pediatric Neurology (based on subspecialty). Additionally, participation in the evolving immunotherapy service for brain tumor patients is expected. These responsibilities also involve caring for patients with CNS tumors in the outpatient setting.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a medical degree and license, board certification or eligibility in Pediatrics, and board certification/eligibility in Hematology/Oncology and/or Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology.

Preferred qualifications include a robust academic background and a keen interest in pursuing a career in clinical or basic research and teaching.

University of California, San Francisco:

The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation. For the 16th year in a row, UCSF garnered the top spot among public institutions in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2022.

For 2022-2023, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals ranked in all 10 children’s specialties in U.S. News and World Report. Nestled in a dynamic and unique geography distinguished by unprecedented innovations in technology, UCSF and the Department of Pediatrics are able to bring research and industry together to advance health.

Department of Neurology:

The current NIH rankings (2022, the most recent year for which figures are available) show that UCSF Neurology is ranked #2 nationally. We have been at or near the top spot for the past 10 years. This ranking does not take into account the NIH support to our faculty at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center or the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease.

The U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals list for 2023-24 has ranked UCSF Medical Center among the nation’s premier medical institutions. UCSF’s neurology & neurosurgery services are ranked second in the nation among hospitals that offer those services and #1 in the San Francisco Metro Area. This is the 27th year that UCSF has reached the highest echelons for neurology/neurosurgery.

In 2023, UC San Francisco’s School of Medicine placed in the top two nationally in the U.S. News & World Report survey of best graduate and professional schools. UCSF’s biomedical science PhD programs are within the top 10.
