Many faculty in the general medicine night hospitalist position ultimately transition to subspecialty fellowships, while others remain on faculty long-term and transition to clinical or academic hospitalist positions.

Job details
Medicine Night Hospitalist Service at UCSF-Parnassus

The Night Hospitalist Service (NHS) provides direct care, supervision of medicine housestaff, nighttime education for medicine housestaff, and nighttime coverage of hospitalist direct care medicine services at UCSF-Parnassus. Four hospitalists are in-house overnight, each with specified roles and responsibilities including: new admissions, cross-coverage, ED-to-medicine triage, and medicine consultation and comanagement. Night hospitalists provide clinical care for 12 hour shifts and sign out to the daytime direct care hospitalists and housestaff teams in the morning. In addition to the night hospitalists, the night team at Moffitt-Long Hospital consists of multiple residents and subspecialty nighttime hospitalists (Cardiology, Heme-BMT). Night hospitalists may also rotate at other UCSF Health sites, including Mount Zion and Mission Bay hospitals, where they provide direct care and medicine consultation.
