Position description

Junior Specialist- Delling Lab

The Department of Physiology is now recruiting a Junior Specialist. The area of specialization/responsibilities include:

  • Cell culture techniques: working under sterile conditions, cell transfection, viral infection, cell freezing and thawing, optimization of cell culture conditions, live imaging.
  • Animal care: mouse husbandry, genotyping of transgenic lines.
  • Prepare and track purchasing and payment authorizations.
  • Molecular biology techniques: DNA extraction from animal tissue, Genotyping, design of PCR primers, Western blotting, RNA isolation from animal tissue, restriction enzyme digestion and mapping, agarose gel electrophoresis, isolation of DNA from agarose gels, ligation of DNA, transformation of DNA, mini- and maxi-preparation of DNA, site-directed DNA mutagenesis
  • General laboratory skills: making solutions, calculating molarity, percent solutions (v/v, w/v), correct use of pipettes, pipettemen, and other liquid transfer devices.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree. Degree must be in Biological Sciences with emphasis on cellular and/or molecular biology
  • Basic laboratory skills: Molarity calculations, accurate solution formulation, pH determination, maintenance of accurate notebooks, ability to understand and follow basic laboratory protocols with direct supervision, ability to perform complex tasks without committing errors.
  • Molecular biology: Laboratory experience including experience with each of the following: PCR, DNA isolation and manipulation, PCR genotyping interpretation, protein gel electrophoresis
