CHIEF, OTOLARYNGOLOGY - HEAD AND NECK SURGERY
Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine, seeks an outstanding leader to serve as Chief of OHNS at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). This position offers an exceptional leadership opportunity at the only Level 1 trauma center in the City and County of San Francisco. It is a safety-net hospital serving all of San Francisco, with a clear mission to care for the underserved of the city. ZSFG is well-resourced and staffed by physicians and residents from UCSF in all medical and surgical specialties. In addition, ZSFG will be opening a new research building in the summer of 2023. The UCSF Department of OHNS operates across five sites throughout San Francisco, and offers a fully-accredited five-year Residency Training Program and fellowship programs in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Laryngology, Pediatric Otolaryngology, and Head and Neck Oncology.

This opportunity encompasses a mature practice which includes the full range of the specialty. The Chief will have major responsibilities for faculty recruitment and evaluation, oversight of clinical quality and operations, and management of research and education programs at ZSFG.

The UCSF Department of OHNS at ZSFG provides comprehensive services to a large local and referral adult and pediatric population with approximately 5,000 annual visits at Zuckerberg San Francisco General.

Successful candidates for this position must demonstrate exceptional leadership, administrative and organizational skills and have experience with quality improvement. The applicant must have experience in an academic Department of OHNS and be board certified. The successful candidate will have a full-time appointment at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine.

Required Qualifications:
All of the qualifications must be met by the time of hire.

  • MD degree or equivalent degree.
  • Completed accredited residency program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Board Certified in the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Experience and interest in trauma care.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as faculty in an OHNS residency program.
  • Experience and interest in managing departmental quality and safety.
  • Candidate must have active CA medical license.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Demonstrated leadership in educational administration and/or site directorship for an OHNS residency program.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $135,700 - $360,600. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
