Junior Specialist- Gonzalez Lab
Department of Physiology
University of California, San Francisco

The Gonzalez Lab at UCSF seeks to hire a junior specialist to work with current graduate students and postdocs in our recently started lab (2023) focused on how neuronal activity controls behavior in songbirds. This researcher will be involved in experiments using advanced imaging (1-photon and 2-photon) and electrophysiological (Neuropixel) approaches to probe cell and circuit physiology. Responsibilities may include animal handling, stereotaxic surgeries to deliver viruses to specific anatomical sites in the bird brain, in vivo and ex vivo imaging and electrophysiological experiments and analyses, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A B.S. or B.A. in biology, engineering, chemistry, or related discipline.
  • Prior experience with programming and scripting languages.
  • Applicants must meet all of the requirements including degree requirement by the time of hire.
  • Candidate’s CV must state required qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a research laboratory
  • Animal handling experience
  • Programing experience (Python, MATLAB)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong time management skills
