Position description

Microbiome faculty position search
The Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine (BCMM) is seeking a visionary scientist to join our vibrant and growing research community at the University of California San Francisco, Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. and/or MD and have demonstrated outstanding research accomplishment and potential. They should also have a clear record of mentorship – particularly of students from groups that are typically underrepresented in biomedical science.

Candidates with demonstrated expertise in metabolism by human-associated microbial communities are encouraged to apply. In addition to their own research program, the candidate will direct the Quantitative Metabolite Analysis Center (QMAC) within the Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine. The QMAC is a full-service metabolomics facility equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers for targeted and untargeted metabolomics. As the Director of the QMAC, the candidate will lead a team to collaborate with investigators across campus to produce, analyze and interpret metabolomic datasets and develop new technologies to serve the microbiome research community.

Depending on the area of research specialization, the successful candidate may be jointly appointed in one of our clinical or basic science departments or divisions. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a highly collaborative and interactive translational research program, to join one of our top-ranked interdisciplinary graduate programs (see https://graduate.ucsf.edu/list-programs), excel at graduate teaching and inclusive mentoring, and participate in activities that promote equity and inclusion. Service and teaching expectations are comparable to those of any other tenure-track faculty position.

Faculty appointment will be made at a professorial rank commensurate with current academic standing. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $115,100 -$305,900. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
