Position description

The Langelier Lab is now recruiting a Specialist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full rank. The area of specialization and responsibilities for this position include:
• Carry out bioinformatic analysis of host and microbe metagenomic sequencing data as well as single cell RNA sequencing data.
• Lead and work collaboratively on projects to study the host response to infectious and inflammatory diseases- and contribute to the development of improved diagnostics for respiratory infections, acute respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis.

Required qualifications:
• Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or at least ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.
• Programming skills in R and/or Python. Familiarity with tools relevant to analyzing high dimension microbial and human genomic data.
• Strong attention to detail and solid analytical skills.
• Self-motivated, ability to work efficiently and independently while contributing to the team effort and meeting deadlines.
• Prior coursework in biology or medicine.
• Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
• Interest in contributing to scientific studies and manuscripts.

Preferred qualifications:
• Masters or PhD degree in a biological science, computer science, biostatisitics or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Post-graduate training in field.
• Independent specialized research.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
