Position description

Pollen Lab Assistant Specialist
Center for Regeneration Medicine & Stem Cell Research, UC San Francisco

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Pollen Lab at UCSF (https://www.pollenlab.org) is looking for a new research specialist. Our lab combines advances in single cell genomics, genome engineering, and great ape cerebral organoids to identify genomic differences underlying unique features or vulnerabilities of the human brain. Ultimately, we aim to identify novel therapeutic targets by combining an evolutionary approach to selective vulnerability of neurons with new cellular models.

This is a full-time position, but there is start-date flexibility for the right candidate. The candidate should be experienced with molecular biology techniques such as handling DNA and RNA samples, cloning, PCR, viral transduction and nucleus isolation. In addition, the candidate should have experience with culturing cerebral organoids, and executing and analyzing single cell transcriptomic studies. This would be an ideal position for a graduate seeking to gain advanced laboratory research experience using state-of-the-art techniques in neuroscience, and it is our intention for the selected candidates to contribute meaningfully to projects and co-author peer-reviewed publications.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

Qualifications:
• Must have (or in process of obtaining) a Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in neurobiology or related discipline, or at least five years of research experience.
• At least 1 year of total experience working in a neuroscience research laboratory/ neuroscience laboratories.
• Candidates must meet the required qualifications by the time of appointment. Candidate’s CV or cover letter must state basic qualifications upon submission.

Preferred:
• Stem Cell Culturing Experience
• Single Cell Genomics Experience (including CITE-seq)
• Bioinformatics Experience (Python and/or R)
• Nucleus Isolation Experience
• Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) experience
• Experience handling adult human brain tissue
• Experience developing transcriptomic data analysis pipelines
• Cloning Experience
• Adeno-associated Virus (AAV) production experience
