Position description

Palliative Medicine Clinician-Educator Faculty at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital

The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Medicine is recruiting Palliative Care clinician-educator faculty for the Palliative Care Service (PCS) in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG). ZSFG is a premier safety-net hospital and trauma center run in partnership by the city of San Francisco and UCSF since 1873. ZSFG serves as one of the main clinical sites for the UCSF School of Medicine, which includes robust fellowship programs in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

We seek faculty who are passionate about providing high-quality palliative care to patients who are vulnerable and marginalized. The PCS enjoys strong institutional support from the Department of Medicine and hospital leadership. The team provides expert symptom management, advance care planning, connection with community resources, and psychosocial and spiritual support for patients with serious illness. Specific responsibilities for the position will include attending on the inpatient palliative care consult service, teaching UCSF trainees, and participating in divisional quality improvement activities. There will be opportunities to attend in the outpatient palliative care clinic as well.

This position will include the opportunity to work with UCSF palliative care fellows, residents, and medical students, and will provide protected time for academic activities. There will be opportunities to work on projects to expand palliative care services throughout the San Francisco Health Network, in addition to opportunities to expand educational experiences for learners. The ZSFG Palliative Care Service benefits from strong connections to our counterparts in the Division of Palliative Medicine at UCSF Health and the Hospice and Palliative Care service at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Our division highly values physicians who will contribute to diversity of the ZSFG physician workforce, and whose background and experience will contribute to our mission of providing high-quality care for the diverse patient population served by ZSFG. Successful candidates will have demonstrated outstanding clinical, teaching, and organizational skills, and shown a commitment to the care of underserved patients. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Positions include a faculty appointment at the University of California San Francisco, flexible schedule, and competitive benefits package.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment.
