Position description
Associate Chief of Research – Division of Palliative Medicine, Department of Medicine
The UCSF Division of Palliative Medicine (DPM), based at our UCSF Health sites, is seeking applications for the Associate Chief of Research. The DPM launched in 2018 and is expanding its research programs. We are searching for a dynamic, forward-looking individual with strong leadership capabilities, a well-funded and robust research program, and a track record of collaboration and research mentorship to spearhead and grow the division’s research activities. The Associate Chief of Research will serve as a member of our Division’s leadership team that provides strategic direction for all aspects of the DPM. This leadership position in our vibrant and growing Division of 27 faculty, 7 staff, 7 fellows, and 17 interprofessional team members offers a unique opportunity for an established researcher to assume a leadership role to help shape and grow the DPM. In addition to expanding their own research program and mentoring DPM researchers, the successful candidate will play a leading role in strategic planning, collaboration, and implementation of university-wide research efforts around palliative care and care for the seriously ill.
The position may be granted substantial salary and program development support. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
Candidates may be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. This position will report directly to the Chief of the Division Palliative Medicine at UCSF Health.
Qualified applicants will have an MD and/or PhD with a track record as principal investigator of projects with peer-reviewed extramural funding, an established research program relevant to palliative care, and documented experience and success as a mentor. Candidates with an MD who wish to serve as an attending physician on the inpatient or outpatient palliative care services at UCSF Health must also be board certified in any primary specialty, board certified/eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and be eligible for licensure in the State of California at the time of hire.
Interested applicants should apply with a letter of interest, their CV, a statement of research outlining current and future research activities, a statement of contributions to diversity, and contacts for three references.
