Associate Specialist- Roy Lab
Bioengineering & Therapeutic Sciences
The Biodesign (ROY) lab at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking an experienced researcher to work with our multidisciplinary team of academic and industry researchers who are applying MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) and tissue engineering strategies to medical device development. They will contribute to the development of an implantable device suitable for preclinical testing in collaboration with nephrologists, biomedical engineers, and transplant surgeons. They will conduct specialized research in biomaterials and tissue engineering, including application of thin-film coatings and evaluation of materials-tissue interactions.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in a field such as bioengineering, biomedical engineering, material sciences or related fields or five to ten years of relevant experience.
- Track record of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals and/or presentations at scientific conferences
- Proficiency in cell culture
- Proficiency in running biological assays
- In addition to enthusiasm, motivation, and independent thinking, candidates must be knowledgeable in biomaterials and tissue engineering.
- Personal skills such as teamwork, accurate listening, strategic thinking, along with very good oral and written English language skills will be critical for successful candidates.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent degree in a field such as bioengineering, biomedical engineering, material sciences or related fields
- Post-graduate training in field
- Knowledge and familiarity with Solid Works and ANSYS (Mechanical, Fluent)
- Knowledge and experience with CNC machining and 3D printing
- Knowledge and familiarity with light, electron, and atomic force microscopy
- Knowledge and experience with fluid transport models
- Knowledge of implantable biomedical devices
