Position description

ZSFG Richard Fine People’s Clinic
Physician Researcher

The Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is recruiting for a Physician Researcher in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). We are seeking candidates with interest and expertise in primary care, health disparities and implementation science.

Candidates must be licensed clinicians and board-eligible in Internal Medicine; ABIM certification is preferred. Candidates should preferably have either a Masters or PhD. The appointment will be made at the level of Assistant Professor, in either the Adjunct, In Residence, or Health Sciences Clinical series.

Experience working in a safety net setting and with vulnerable populations is strongly preferred. A commitment to providing high quality care to the urban underserved and teaching on this topic is required.

Applicants are expected to have or acquire career development award funding and to ultimately develop an independent research program.

The faculty member will have their own primary care clinic at the Richard Fine People’s Clinic (RFPC) for at least one session per week. He/she will also supervise residents as a key member of our faculty precepting group for at least one session per week. RFPC seeks a skilled clinician who has at least 2 years of post-training experience in primary care and who has outstanding primary care teaching abilities. Language proficiency in Spanish or Chinese is highly desirable. RFPC is an academic primary care practice that cares for ~8,000 of the City’s most medically and socially complex, ethnically diverse patients, delivering well over 30,000 visits per year. RFPC also is a major teaching site for UCSF Internal Medicine residents (categorical and primary care). Approximately half of all patient visits are performed by faculty and nurse practitioners; the remainder are carried out by residents. The position also includes 1-2 2-week sessions serving on the Medicine Resident Inpatient Service at ZSFG.

DGIM at ZSFG has approximately 30 faculty members and three main centers of activity: providing medical care at RFPC and on the inpatient wards of the hospital; teaching UCSF medical students, residents, and research fellows; and conducting action-oriented and policy-relevant research focused on generating new knowledge and policy to improve the care and health of vulnerable and underserved populations. ZSFG is a premier public hospital with a level 1 trauma center that also has a strong research enterprise. RFPC is part of The San Francisco Health Network, the city’s integrated safety net health system that cares for ~110,000 patients annually in 13 primary care health centers throughout the city.

UC San Francisco seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, and/or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
