Assistant/Associate Health Sciences Clinical Faculty Physical Therapist Clinical Supervisor

The UCSF Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is seeking a full-time Clinical Supervisor in the Health Sciences Clinical Faculty series (at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor). This position manages and supervises the operational and administrative functions of one of UCSF Faculty Practice outpatient physical therapy clinics and satelites. With over 44,000 clinic visits/ year, the clinical supervisor responsibilities will include managing, planning, and coordinating the daily operations of one of our busy therapy clinics. They will supervise clinical faculty, medical center staff physical therapists, and support staff (clinical and administrative), while optimizing delivery of patient care services, and acting as a liaison with patients, staff, faculty, and other departments within UCSF Health and the School of Medicine.

As a member of the Department and the Leadership Team, the Clinic Supervisor will work with the other Clinical Supervisors, the Assistant Director-Outpatient Rehab Services, Ambulatory Administration Practice Supervisor, Rehabilitation Services, and other stakeholders to make recommendations for and plan implementation of improvements in patient care procedures, protocols or programs directed by the Department and provided by the clinical enterprise. The Clinical Supervisor leads faculty and staff development and engagement activities, including LER compliance, timesheets, performance improvement, discipline, attendance, and annual performance evaluations for clinical faculty, medical center physical therapists, and rehabilitation aides. The Clinical Supervisor makes recommendations for staffing levels, guidelines, supplies and equipment required to meet the needs of patients served in the clinical setting.

Additional roles and responsibilities include interpreting policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas), and analyzing and resolving problems. The Supervisor guides staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives, and provides input for aligning clinical initiatives with strategic priorities of the Department, School, and Health System. The Clinical Supervisor demonstrates excellent subject matter knowledge, and exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. They will support initiatives to further the Mission of UCSF, including participation in Lean process improvement activities, selected UCSF Health and Departmental committees and workgroups, and clinical education programs at UCSF. The Clinical Supervisor will work in conjunction with other supervisors at the faculty practice sites to help integrate clinical research, best practices within individual practice settings, and regulatory compliance. They will ensure consistent quality standards, ensure the highest level of patient care and satisfaction, and assist in improving access, meeting established clinical metrics, and incorporating clinical education and research into the practice. The clinical supervisor also facilitates and supports continued growth activities in Outpatient Rehabilitation Services. This position will have direct reporting to the Assistant Director- Outpatient Rehabilitation, and as a member of the faculty, will also report to the department chair.

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science, as a component of the UCSF School of Medicine, provides mission driven and evidence-based patient care services across the health system in areas of patient care, education, and research. Physical Therapy services are provided for patients across the lifespan continuum at locations such as UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes, and outpatient based Faculty Practice locations, such as Mission Bay, Mount Zion, and Lakeshore, and embedded interdisciplinary clinics. The Department educates scholarly, socially sensitive clinicians, educators, and researchers in physical therapy and rehabilitation science who will lead the profession into the next century. Physical therapy students and physical therapy providers participate as part of a team within an environment of health care that is patient focused, and directed towards building the scientific base of clinical practice, with an eye toward equity, quality, accessibility, and efficiency.

Applicants must hold a DPT degree and have an area of practice expertise, preferably as a Board-certified clinical specialist. The applicant must have a license to practice physical therapy in California or be eligible for licensure in California, and must have experience in patient care. The candidate will be asked to share their expertise in the classroom and/or in the Faculty Practice environment. This position comprises 65-70% supervisory work, 25-30% patient care, and 5-10% teaching in the UCSF/SFSU Graduate Program in Physical Therapy and/or Orthopedic residency program. The faculty member is expected to participate in university governance, clinical faculty meetings, departmental administrative meetings, quality assurance programs, and continuing education.
