Position description

Assistant Professor
UCSF Diabetes Center

The University of California at San Francisco is seeking to appoint a new faculty member whose research program will focus on computational biology and bioinformatics as related to human disease. This search is led by the Diabetes Center at UCSF, which is chartered to investigate aspects of metabolic and immune diseases including diabetes and obesity, and where faculty members’ research is particularly strong in basic science. Research programs include development, differentiation and homeostasis of multiple cell types and tissues manifesting or modulating disease. We recognize that basic science investigations and clinical investigations both increasingly benefit from high throughput approaches that include genome sequencing, transcriptomics (RNA-seq and single cell RNA-seq), epigenomics (ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq), proteomics (Cytof) and metabolomics, and functional genomics. The successful candidate will interact with the existing faculty and is expected to develop an independent research portfolio focusing on designing and developing novel computational tools. The ideal applicant should be proficient in data analyses and have expertise in integrating multiple datasets to arrive at biological insights.

The appointee will occupy space in the Diabetes Center on the Parnassus Heights campus of UCSF.

Candidates are required to hold a MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degree, and to have demonstrated achievement in their field. The deadline for applications to be considered in a timely manner is December 30, 2018. Applicants should submit her/his curriculum vitae, a 1-2 page summary of research accomplishments, a 1-2 page perspective on future research plans, and reprints of major publications, and arrange to have three-five letters of recommendation online via AP Recruit at: https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/apply/JPF02234.

UCSF seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The University is an ‘Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.’ All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
