The Department of Anatomy is seeking a Junior Specialist. The incumbent will assist graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in performing behavioral experiments in mice. Responsibilities may include performing stereotaxic surgeries to deliver viruses and drugs to specific anatomic sites in the mouse brain; performing two-photon calcium imaging in the brains of awake, behaving mice; performing immunostaining of brain slices to characterize gene expression in the nervous system; running behavioral assays in conjunction with optogenetics or in vivo calcium imaging; genotyping and mouse colony maintenance and perform other duties as assigned. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and to participate in University and Public Service.
Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in biology or a related discipline or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). Experience working in a research laboratory is a prerequisite. This is a full-time position, but there is start-date flexibility for the right candidate. This would be an ideal position for a recent or upcoming graduate seeking to gain laboratory research experience using state-of-the-art techniques in neuroscience prior to applying to graduate school, and it is our intention for the selected candidates to contribute meaningfully to projects and co-author peer-reviewed publications.
Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
