Junior Specialist (Dr. Robert Blelloch’s Lab)

A Research Technician position is currently available for immediate employment in the lab of Dr. Robert Blelloch at the University of California, San Francisco studying the molecular mechanisms by which cell-cycle regulated transcription is established during embryonic development and influences cell fate. Previous researchers in equivalent positions have successfully obtained admission to some of the most prestigious medical and graduate programs in the country. The candidate will have the opportunity to present their research in local meetings and earn authorship on publications where they contribute data.

Responsibilities and technical expertise: The candidate will work very closely with and receive training from postdoctoral fellows and graduate students within the lab. Primary job duties include performing experiments involving RNA isolation, FACS, RNA-seq library preparation, immunohistochemistry, tissue culture, cloning and generating transgenic cell lines as well as mouse husbandry, genotyping and dissection. The candidate will also be expected to partake in general lab citizenship duties such as organization, ordering, and safety compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a recent B.A. or B.S. degree (but not M.S. degree) in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field by the start date.
  • Applicant must have at least a 3.5 GPA to be eligible.
  • Previous independent laboratory experience outside of required courses is mandatory.
  • Must be highly motivated, demonstrate a passion for scientific research, and must exhibit a strong commitment to perform scientific research with a desire to pursue a Ph.D. in the biological sciences.
  • Applicant must be an effective communicator, detail-oriented and organized, able to take the initiative to address research issues, work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with molecular biology and mouse husbandry.
  • A two-year commitment is highly preferred.
