Chief, UCSF Health Division of Rheumatology

The Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco seeks a Chief for the Division of Rheumatology based at its UCSF Health campuses. The chief provides leadership for approximately 20 faculty members working at three sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion and Mission Bay) in order to support the department mission in patient care, research, education, and public service. The Division oversees outstanding programs in general rheumatology and in scleroderma, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, vasculitis, autoimmunity and immunology, and precision medicine. Clinically, the program is ranked in the top 10 in the nation by US News & World Report, and the rheumatology fellowship program is widely recognized as among the very best in the country. The division is affiliated with the Russell/Engleman Rheumatology Research Center, which provides important support for academic activities, including an outstanding research program that spans a wide range of areas including immunology, genomics, clinical trials, health services and outcomes research.

Responsibilities of the Division Chief include:
• Clinical program oversight and management
• Faculty academic management to establish goals, metrics for success, and accountability in areas of research, education, patient care, service, and scholarship
• Faculty, staff, and trainee recruitment, mentorship, feedback, and development
• Fiscal oversight and stewardship to assure solvency and promote growth of strategic reserves
• Enhance the division’s output and stature in research and scholarship

The UCSF Division Chief also will work closely with the chiefs and faculty of UCSF’s affiliated academic institutions (Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and San Francisco VA Medical Center) to assure continued success and support for its joint fellowship programs in rheumatology (3 fellows/year) and to promote faculty recruitment and career growth across all divisions.

Qualified candidates must have an MD degree or equivalent, be board-certified or eligible in rheumatology, and have licensure/eligibility by the Medical Board of California. The Chief will be appointed at the rank of associate or full Professor in either the In Residence or Clinical X series. The ideal candidate should have a strong track record of scholarship, publication, teaching, and clinical excellence and have demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills and success.
