C. neoformans is a budding yeast, which is responsible for ~1,000,000 infections worldwide in highly immunocompromised patients, particularly in underdeveloped countries.
Responsibilities: Primary job duties include participation in efforts to profile functions using pooled screens in infection models and cutting-edge methods that employ high-throughput sequencing and downstream computational analysis. Secondary duties include: laboratory organization, ordering, and ensuring safety compliance. The employee will work very closely with and receive training from senior scientists in the laboratory including staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
Qualifications: Highly motivated individuals who have demonstrated a passion for scientific research holding a recent B.A. or B.S. (but not M.S.) in relevant fields such as microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, etc. Previous independent laboratory experience outside of courses is required; experience working with laboratory mice, genetics, microbiology, and molecular biology are highly desirable. Command line and coding skills are a plus. Applicant must be an effective communicator, be able to take the initiative to address research issues, be able to work independently, be detail-oriented and organized, and also be a team player that works well with other members of the lab.
