Position description

We are seeking a full-time Specialist who will work on studies related to the causes and consequences of kidney disease. The incumbent will be responsible for developing analysis plans, performing and interpreting statistical analyses, and contributing to research publications and presentations.

The incumbent will work in the Kidney Health Research Collaborative (KHRC) group, which serves as the center of extensive kidney research activities for the broad UCSF campus, and is based at the San Francisco VA Health Care System. In addition to an extensive range of research studies, our major emphasis is on training and mentorship. We seek to embed research education in all stages of investigation. What distinguishes the KHRC from other kidney research centers is the prioritization on prevention through early detection of kidney disease. Major research areas at KHRC include: diagnostic markers of early kidney disease; cardiovascular consequences of CKD; optimal treatment of hypertension; and, special populations at risk for CKD, including persons with HIV infection, elders, and racial-ethnic minorities.

Required qualifications:
• At least a Master's degree in statistics, epidemiology, or a related field by the time of hire.
• At least 2-3 years experience in analysis of clinical data.
• Proficient in SAS or Stata.
• Able to plan and executive research methods independently.
• History of being part of research publications.
• Strong interpersonal, written/oral communication, and organizational skills.
• Able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Experience with a wide range of statistical methods including multivariable linear and logistic regression, GEE and linear mixed models, survival analysis, multiple imputation, marginal structural modeling, cluster analysis, and variable selection methods such as LASSO and Bayesian Model Averaging.

Preferred qualifications:
• Independent specialized research.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
