Description

Faculty Position:
Integrative Medicine Physician
San Francisco VA Medical Center

The Integrative Health Service at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS) and the Department of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) are pleased to announce a full-time physician faculty position as Integrative Medicine physician based at the SFVAHCS. The SFVAHCS and UCSF academic partnership is nationally renowned as a model of excellence in patient care, research and education, and the Integrative Medicine physician will play a key role in building and shaping a new Integrative Health service line that will further enhance the SFVAHCS/UCSF partnership and reflect a growing emphasis in VA on Whole Health care for veterans.

The Integrative Medicine physician joins a new, vibrant, and growing Integrative Health Service and VA Whole Health program with ample opportunities for collaborations with colleagues throughout UCSF, SFVAHCS, and nationally. This position has overall leadership and accountability for all Integrative Medicine clinical programs in their strategic development, outcome measures, and integration with the mission and programs of SFVAHCS and the UCSF Department of Medicine. The incumbent will lead a multi-disciplinary integrative health clinical team based at the SFVAHCS and will work collaboratively with wellness program partners based at VA and in the community. The Integrative Medicine Physician will work closely with the Integrative Health Service leadership and administration of other Integrative Health programs at SFVAHCS.

This position includes direct patient care and teaching activities, such as serving as the attending physician in the Integrative Medicine Clinic(s), in the Community Living Center, or on the inpatient service at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. The incumbent will also participate in novel video telehealth programs to provide care to rural veterans. Teaching activities may include UCSF courses or electives in integrative health or medicine. The Integrative Medicine physician provides grand rounds, in-services, and other training opportunities as needed in order to promote Integrative Health and integrated, proactive, preventative, holistic care throughout SFVAHCS and the broader UCSF community.

The Integrative Medicine Physician must be board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice and must have completed fellowship training in Integrative Medicine or equivalent and have experience in the practice of complementary and integrative health. Demonstrated leadership in Integrative Medicine and experience working within the VA health care system are a plus. Applicants will be eligible for a UCSF appointment in the Clinical series as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the Department of Medicine, and as such, will be encouraged to participate in teaching, mentoring and scholarly activities.

This is a 1.0 VA FTE position, which includes roughly 30% time for administration, teaching, and research and 70% time for clinical activities. The Integrative Medicine physician will have dual appointments: an appointment with the SFVAHCS and an academic appointment with UCSF. Applicants must also be eligible for appointment at the VA. The VA’s basic qualification standards may be found at http://www.vacareers.va.gov/application-process/navigating/before-you-apply.asp.
