Position description

The Nowakowski Lab, located at the UCSF Mission Bay campus, is seeking a highly motivated candidate interested in conducting basic science research with a focus on studying the molecular mechanisms of brain development. This full-time position will involve working closely with the PI as well as members of the laboratory.

You will become a member of the vibrant research community at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus and your chief responsibilities will include molecular biology and tissue and cell culture, managing stocks and supplies in the lab, and independent literature research, including presentations at the regular lab meetings. This position is for one year and ideally suited for an individual with a molecular biology experience who is looking to gain further research experience on the way to further career development, such as going on to graduate, medical, or MD/PhD training. Good communication skills are essential. Reappointment will be considered but is not guaranteed.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) by the appointment effective date. Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) by the appointment effective date.
