Position description

The Department of Pathology is now accepting applications for a temporary Associate or Full Specialist. The assignment is approximately 6 months. The Specialist will: analyze flow cytometry and RNA sequencing data acquired by the UCSF Immunoprofiler from human tumors, with an emphasis on one or two particular indications; define T-cell gene signatures of interest (exhaustion, effector, metabolic) in cancers and validate those signatures with flow cytometry data and other means; use a combination of methods to define a metabolic gene signature for T cells and myeloid cells to define classes that parse tumors; may be asked to perform basic immunology and molecular biology experiments; prepare RNA and DNA isolation; perform flow cytometry and microscopy; perform PCR, weaning, tail biopsy, and blood processing; maintain records of mice; and perform other duties as assigned. Specialist is expected to work well as part of a team and have enthusiasm for the practice of science.

Required Qualifications:
•Specialists appointed at the Associate rank at minimum must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in biology, chemistry and/or biochemistry or related field and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position.

•Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a terminal degree or equivalent degree in biology, chemistry and/or biochemistry or related field and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position.

• One or more years of experience in either immunology or molecular biology.

• All requirements must be met at time of appointment.
