Description

The Brain Tumor Center and The Institute for Computational Health Science at UCSF is internationally recognized for its expansive research program. The position will fall within the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics within the Department of Neurosurgery – to work closely with data scientists in the ICHS and neuropathologists. We have recently launched a new program to identify novel approaches to personalized GBM therapy. We are recruiting an accomplished Data Scientist key contributor to aggregate clinical and genomic data and populate a searchable database for GBM patient care. The incumbent will have a demonstrated background in bioinformatics working closely with clinicians, biologists, statisticians, and other translational researchers.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain up-to-date list of national and international clinical trials, with an emphasis on targeted therapies.
• Aggregate UCSF500 gene panel data and other genomic tests from GBM patients.
• Performs and maintain a comprehensive literature search of published genomic-based data for GBM
• Aggregate existing genomic databases (government, academic, and industry)
• Generate a data-sharing proposal
• Identify candidate off-label therapies beyond the standard of care

Required Qualifications:
• Masters or M.D. or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, medical-related biology, statistics or computer-science or in relevant field.
• Demonstrated experience in database data integration, data capture an application of advanced data analytics, including data mining and visualization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with TCGA, GTEX, TARGET and other large data sets.
• Demonstrated background using genomic signatures to analyze patient and animal data.
• Working knowledge of cancer biology, cancer immunology, cancer therapy, and clinical trials.
• Familiar with R programming

Desired Qualifications:
• Publications in glioblastoma or other brain cancers.
• Experience with differential gene analysis, GSEA and similar tools.

The incumbent will work closely with Brain Tumor Center investigators and data scientists at the Institute for Computational Health Sciences to conceptualize, design, and develop analytic solutions connecting patient data with high dimensional, complex genomic data. The incumbent must demonstrate understanding of genomic database design and structure. Experience with applications backed by data-intensive infrastructure and statistical applications preferred.
