Assistant/Associate Professor, Adjunct or In Residence

The UCSF Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is recruiting for an Adjunct or In Residence faculty member at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join a dedicated and dynamic group of faculty and staff members committed to developing professionals in physical therapy practice, education, social responsibility, and discovery and translation of science to improve health.

Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in the education of Doctor of Physical Therapy learners, and strong teaching evaluations. Candidates must have a record of community health service and engagement in the physical therapy profession at local and national levels. Candidates must be licensed to practice physical therapy in California, or be eligible for licensure in California. Although skill in ambulatory practice is desired, applicants with experience in acute or specialty care will be considered. Experience in interprofessional education is desired, and such experience may have been derived from work in the global community. The successful candidate will teach in their areas of expertise in the UCSF/SFSU DPT program and may provide clinical care in physical therapy. The incumbent will work with experienced colleagues across health professions programs, garnering best practices to build workforce capacity and address disparities in resources that impact health. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to health equity and to transforming society through education, outreach and inclusion. The successful candidate will work with Program faculty to implement a mentoring program to facilitate the success of physical therapy students from a breadth of diverse groups.

The incumbent will work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team for teaching, research, and outreach activities, and will collaborate with other faculty members in procuring external funding. Applicants who have a proven ability to develop collaborative programs and will contribute his/her expertise to the UCSF and SFSU communities are favorable. This faculty member will also play a role in mentoring junior faculty and fellows, and will serve on School and University committees. Other areas of responsibility will be negotiated based on the applicant’s strengths. Applicants must hold a DPT, PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent degree from an accredited university.

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (DPTRS) is one of the departments in the School of Medicine, and has 22 core faculty, 2 Orthopedic Residents, 2 PhD Students, 150 DPT graduate students, and 46 Volunteer Clinical Faculty. The DPTRS also operates several faculty practice clinics, and a Health and Wellness Center, with a total of 135 faculty and staff. The DPT program is a joint program with San Francisco State University, adding another 5 core faculty members.
