Position description

The IGOT - Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Global Research Initiative offers a 10-month to 1-year opportunity for third and fourth year medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery and global health. The specialist research position is designed to build upon fundamental skills and hands-on research experience critical to implementing orthopaedic research projects globally. The position will include the design and implementation of projects with our global partners and affiliates as well as a structured curriculum reviewing the various processes in conducting research. The position is embedded into IGOT's programs and includes specific responsibilities based on project needs and objectives. IGOT is based at the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute (OTI) at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and travel is determined by the project or global partner need. Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or four years of equivalent research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). Third-year or fourth-year medical student and taken USMLE Step 1 are required. Applicants who have a strong interest in global orthopaedics are preferred. Additionally, applicants must be able to provide verification of authorization to work in the United States.
