Position description

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, is recruiting a board-certified, or board-eligible, Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist to join our Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. The successful candidate will have primarily clinical responsibilities, including coverage of the antepartum service and labor and delivery, obstetrical ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis procedures, and perinatal consultation. UCSF has a busy Fetal Treatment Program, and interested candidates will have the opportunity to be involved in the research and clinical activities of that program, as well. Other clinical and research activities will depend on the candidate’s background, skills and interests; we encourage opportunities for individual academic career development. Excellent communication skills and ability to function in a consultative role are required. Teaching of medical students, residents, and clinical fellows is also included in this opportunity.

The division has a number of exciting initiatives in which the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate. Faculty have the opportunity to participate in clinical research activities through the University of California Fetal Maternal Consortium, a multisite collaboration focused on research and quality initiatives involving maternal-fetal medicine and fetal therapy of the five University of California Medical Centers. We have a newly funded, major Preterm Birth Initiative, and have recently established a multidisciplinary Center for Maternal-Fetal Precision Medicine. There are significant efforts in genetics and genomics across the Department and the University, and prenatal genetics are a major part of such efforts. Our department, in collaboration with the Fetal Treatment Center and Pediatric Cardiology, is expanding our outreach efforts and growing these clinical opportunities.

UCSF has a long history of vibrant basic, translational and clinical research. The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is internationally respected and provides an infrastructure that facilitates success. In addition, there is an outstanding clinical MFM practice, a vibrant fetal intervention program, and tremendous opportunities for collaboration. UCSF has just opened a new hospital at our state-of-the-art Mission Bay Campus. We are seeking candidates who have a vision to advance the subspecialty of MFM. Faculty rank and salary are based upon qualifications and experience.
