The Department of Anatomy is seeking an Assistant Specialist in the Villeda Lab. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. The incumbent will investigate mechanism underlying function impairments in the aging brain. The incumbent will be directly involved in research projects generating mouse models, RNA interference, in vivo stereotaxic injections, heterochronic parabiosis, and cognitive behavioral assays. Additionally, molecular biology techniques such as PCR, sub-cloning, and DNA transfections for viral production will be performed by the incumbent. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for lab administration, record keeping and maintenance, general lab organization, and other duties as assigned.

Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of general laboratory management experience. Animal handling experience, cell culture, management skills, knowledgeable of UCSF systems such as BearBuy and RIO is required.
